A 12th-grade American Government project for the City of Redding. The classroom builds the citizen muscle; this app gives students a place to flex it.

Lesson 1 — What level of government?

Have students report a pothole, then ask: who fixes it?

A city street → City of Redding Public Works
A state route (CA-44, CA-273, I-5) → Caltrans District 2
A private parking lot → the owner, not government

Lesson 2 — Voting & priority

Sort the map by upvotes. Which reports rise to the top? Discuss how this compares to ballot initiatives, and what gets left behind when the loudest voices win.

Lesson 3 — Bureaucracy made visible

Track a single report through the status lifecycle (Reported → Acknowledged → In Progress → Fixed). Time how long each step takes. Write a letter to City Council if it stalls.

For teachers — promoting an "official" account

Every account starts as a citizen. To act as a city official (or to role-play one in class), promote a user from the backend dashboard by inserting a row into user_roles with role official.
